W1548_016Amanda joined LBVC in 2013 as a beginner, after first playing beach at SideOut Beach Volleyball Training Camp in Rhodes, Greece in 2012. Originally from South Africa, Amanda now calls London home after working and living in the city for the last 15 years. Her career as an IT professional, lead to her first volunteer role for LBVC in 2013 as Communications and Technology Officer.  In 2014, Amanda assumed the role of Chair. Amanda is deeply passionate about game and spends most of her free time playing or training. When not on the sand, Amanda enjoys attending music festivals, travelling and cooking. Her three passions in life are beach volleyball, music and technology.  
Chris BakerChris is one of LBVC’s founding members, helping to set up the club with Lenore Gerschwitz in 2006. During his time on the committee he has been responsible for the Shoreditch Court which was set up by him and others in 2005 with the help of Hackney Council. It was London’s first public sand court. In 2014 Chris re-joined the committee as the Shoreditch Park Court Co-coordinator working with Hackney Council to complete the refurbishment of the Shoreditch Park Court. During the summer months, Chris will work with local community organisations to help promote beach volleyball. When not on the sand, Chris enjoys politics and gardening.
RUTH-JAMIESONLeaving behind her passion for hockey, Ruth joined LBVC in 2013. Yes, we have lured many different sports people onto the sand!  Ruth is originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland and is a confirmed Londoner since moving here over 15 years ago. She has two beautiful children and works at University College London, co-ordinating funding bids for research in personalised medicine. When not on the sand, Ruth enjoys running, skiing, and hanging out with her friends and family. During 2014, Ruth helped out at club tournaments and events. We are very excited to announce that Ruth has joined LBVC committee as the Club Secretary and is already working hard at keeping our meeting minutes in check and has completed the clubs accreditation with Volleyball England for 2015.
jackie foto committeeJackie joined the Club in the summer of 2015 after 2 years playing indoors and beach in the south of Spain. She felt extremely happy when discovered the Shoreditch beach court soon after moving to London.


She is passionate about the environment, works on the charity sector and participating in volunteering activities have become an essential part of her life. When not on the sand Jackie loves traveling, going to the movies and discovering new charming places around London. She is enthusiastic and fun-loving and will be leading on the social activities of the Club.


meAlina is mostly responsible for technical tasks but is also in charge of the newsletters.

Before moving to London in 2016 she has been playing mostly indoor Volleyball but focuses on beach volleyball since then.

Apart from Volleyball she enjoys dancing, yoga and running.


Antonella PalmeseAntonella has been a LBVC member for 1 year, training with the advanced girls. Originally from Rome, Italy, currently completing her PhD at UCL. When not on the sand, Antonella enjoys working on her PhD project in Astrophysics, playing indoor volleyball, listening to rock music and playing board games.

In 2014, Antonella and her partner entered the VEBT and ranked 3rd in the Finals. At the moment, Antonella is training hard to get ready for her first international beach volleyball competition in Turkey.

Antonella volunteered last year for LBVC and organised our first Aperitif Night Tournament at SideOut Beach. In Italy this style of tournament is a regular occurrence. Even though the weather gods were not kind and there was a heavy rain for most of the tournament it was enjoyed by the London Beach Volleyball Community who are not afraid of a bit of rain.

Clare BirkettClare has been a member of LBVC since 2009, apart from a short interlude when she lived and worked in Brussels for two years. Clare enjoys the international and friendly ambiance of the club, and particularly likes the social play and training sessions. Clare is always happy to lend a helping hand at our tournaments and events. When not on the sand, Clare enjoys cooking, music, traveling, and learning new languages.

Matt HallworthMatt has been a LBVC member since he moved to London 2 ½ years ago, and is the founder of VolleyFit. Originally from Manchester, when the sun’s out, Matt brings the guns out!

Laying down the soundtrack behind the UK’s top Beach Volleyball beach tournaments and social events, including last year’s Volleyball England Beach Tour. When not behind the decks, camera or on the sand, Matt enjoys comedy, science and Manchester United.

Vickie Chu Vickie has been a LBVC member for 1 year. Originally from Hong Kong, Vickie has an amazing energy both off and on the court. When not on the sand, Vickie enjoys trying out London’s foodie destinations and traveling.

Vickie helps out with LBVC communications and promotion creating stunning tournament flyers and newsletter.

Hoxton Garden School Heiner Alzate and Martina JaneckovaOn the 30th June 2015, with record temperatures of 32 degrees LBVC help Hoxton Garden School to kick off their Keeping Health Week with beach taster sessions for 150 school children aged 6 to 11 years old. Heiner Alzate and Martina Janečková along with the teacher from the school ran the day at our court in Shoreditch Park. It goes without saying a big thank you to the volunteers especially Heiner who coached the sessions. Thank you to SideOut who lent us beach volleyballs for the day. “Just wanted to say another massive thank you for your work on Tuesday. The children absolutely loved it”. Lorna Ward, Head Teacher
Pitch International Law Student volunteer for LBVC in 2015, helping us out by managing our Facebook page and messages. Pitch did an amazing job during the peak months of the summer when our inbox was extremely busy.

  1. Members Administrator

The first 3 months (April – June) you will have lots to do and the administration will take up around 4 hours a week depending on the number of registrations. Responsibilities are processing information requests related to membership registration, prompt setting up and managing members online accounts for the booking system and Volleyball England, managing the Whatsapp group and responding to email requests.

You must have experience with Excel and you will be working with Google Drive.

  1. Treasurer

You are no stranger to the indoor/beach volleyball community? Then you might want to take ownership of the club’s finances. You will set up the club as a non-profit organisation with HMRC, the bank account, manage the budget, transferring all online payments with vendors, track income and expenditure and develop full set of tools to include budget, cash flow, profit and loss, etc. You must have experience with Excel and you will be working with Google Drive.

  1. Social Media Guru

You know social media like the back of your hand? Manage LBVC social media outlets – Twitter, Facebook etc. Posting regular content, responding to messages (especially on Facebook – private message enquiries), support with online ad campaigns, promote training / coaching and open sessions, etc.

As mentioned above you will be working with Google Drive.
